Do you know what the hardest thing is about writing? The hardest thing about writing isn’t coming up with a clever plot, or writing convincing dialogue, or creating complex and believable characters.
The hardest thing about writing is actually just sitting down to do it.
But just because this is the hardest thing doesn’t mean it’s insurmountable. Every successful writer has learned to conquer this challenge, and the solution is really quite simple.
It’s no secret that people find it easier to be motivated with their writing when they’re in the company of others who are writing too. This is why so many writers like to do their writing in public, often in a library or cafe — places that attract other writers and people working in notebooks and computers.
It’s also a lot easier to just sit down and write when there’s no pressure to come up with anything, and you don’t have to worry about what you’re going to write.
This is exactly why I’m launching a new long-form video series called Let’s Write Together.
Each of these videos will be focused on a genre (like dystopian fiction or gothic romance) or a theme (like boosting your creativity, learning to write description, etc.). Every video will contain detailed explanation of the genre or theme, meaning it’s beginner-friendly, and there will be around four or five creative writing sections with prompts and ideas to write about.
Our first video in the Let’s Write Together series will premiere this Saturday at 4:30pm UK time (if you click the link, it should show you the premiere time in your local time zone). The genre we are talking about is Coming-of-Age, that is, stories about the journey from childhood to adulthood. I will be there live to answer questions in the chat and offer ideas, encouragement, and advice.
If you’re seeing this after the premiere, that just means you’ve missed out on the live, but you can still find the video on my channel, and you can always access it whenever you want to sit down and do a little bit of writing.
Let me know what genres and themes you’d like to see in the future!
